Around Durham

After leaving the beach, I spent two days with my sister and brother-in-law in Durham, NC. As part of the Research Triangle and near many universities (Duke and UNC, in particular) there are many things to do in the area. This gallery includes photos from the North Carolina Museum of Art (5 photos), Eno River State Park (1 photo- the cicada), and Sarah P. Duke Gardens (2 photos). The museum was closed, but the new wing is a building that is nearly identical in plan to the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, designed by famed architect Louis Kahn. While hiking in Eno River State Park, besides many cicada - dead and alive, we also saw a hummingbird, two snakes, fishes, and turtles but no beavers, despite what the ranger told us. And Duke Gardens was an elaborate semi-formal garden on the campus of the university.
